Behind the Smoke: Landowners & Partners Execute Prescribed Fire Field Day

Local landowners, volunteers, and conservation professionals recently gathered at the Matador Wildlife Management Area (WMA) for a hands-on Prescribed Fire Field Day hosted by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). The event provided practical experience on how to safely plan, execute, and monitor prescribed burns to improve Texas rangelands.

Field Day Highlights

• 47-Acre Demonstration Burn: Attendees received direct, hands-on training while assisting in the safe execution and monitoring of a 47-acre controlled burn.

• Expert Instruction: Afternoon sessions covered critical management topics, including fire ecology, state burning laws, safety protocols, and habitat restoration strategies.
