Our Coordinating Wildlife Biologist, Jocelyn Hernandez, recently led a site visit at Flycatcher Ranch in Goliad County alongside a collaborative group of conservation partners:

Ashley Reed – U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Partners for Fish and Wildlife (PFW)
Together with landowner Eric Grahmann, the team evaluated three years of dedicated efforts to reverse woody brush encroachment and restore native prairie.
Transforming Habitat for Coastal Wildlife
Through targeted invasive plant management, strategic brush control, and native seed planting, Flycatcher Ranch has transformed into a thriving haven for pollinators, Northern Bobwhite quail, and diverse grassland species.
A highlight of the visit was locating an active bobwhite nest sheltered beside a prickly pear cactus, containing a remarkable 26 eggs.
Landscape-Scale Impact Across Fence Lines
Achieving meaningful habitat restoration requires looking beyond individual property borders. During this trip, the team met with both the Flycatcher Ranch owner and surrounding landowners to foster regional collaboration.
