The question our staff hears most often is simple: "Where can I find public hunting access?"

Because Texas is predominantly privately owned, opening up land for hunting and recreation is one of our top strategic priorities. We work directly with landowners, state agencies, and local partners to expand upland habitat access through three targeted approaches:

• Acquiring Land in Fee-Title: Purchasing property outright to guarantee permanent, forever-public access.

• Opening Private Lands: Partnering with landowners to create incentive-based public hunting access on private property.

• Unlocking Existing Public Land: Maximizing accessibility to public acreage that is currently underutilized or inaccessible.

Our Access Goals

• 1.4 Million Acres: Create new hunting and recreational access opportunities on privately owned lands.

• 75,000 Acres: Open access points to previously "landlocked" public lands.

We drive these habitat and access goals through two signature initiatives:

• Build a Wildlife Area (BAWA)

• Public Access to Habitat (PATH)
