Jacob Nelson

Coordinating Wildlife Biologist

  • Location: Uvalde, TX

  • Favorite Habitat: Intact Oak Savanna

  • Off the Clock: River trips in the summer, hunting in the fall and winter, and waiting for fall to return.

Jacob helps landowners across the lower Edwards Plateau combat brush encroachment and non-native grasses using prescribed fire, mechanical brush management, native grass plantings, and GRIP (Grassland Restoration Incentive Program) funding. He recently helped coordinate a multi-property prescribed burn spanning Real and Uvalde Counties that produced a strong habitat response following timely rains. Jacob finds it incredibly rewarding to help landowners achieve their vision for their property, noting that restoring native grasslands boosts forage flexibility for livestock while preserving vibrant habitat for generations to come.
